Quarantine time is quality time with this family
SunStar’s Hibre Teklemariam is sheltering in place with her fiancé, Al, and their two daughters, ages 7 and 11.
The family had been wanting to get a dog and found this to be the perfect opportunity. They welcomed Koda, an 8-week-old Goldendoodle, into their family a month ago. Since they’re home there is plenty of time to devote to training and puppy snuggles. The family is enjoying lots of walks in the fresh air and exploring nature with the new pup.

Hibre has also found herself unexpectedly taking on a new role as a homeschool teacher. Like many other parents, Hibre has been tasked with helping the kids stay on task and do their schoolwork all while tending to her own duties as a busy PR professional. Now that they are a few weeks in, Hibre has mastered logging her youngest into her daily class zoom meetings then moving on to her own work.

Although they are enjoying the extra family time together, Hibre is looking forward to the time when life can return to “normal.” Hibre and Al loved dining at their favorite sushi spot and going for long walks. Their weekends used to be filled with kids’ activities like gymnastics, indoor climbing or even family bowling!
Being so close to their families, they look forward to the days when they can travel to visit relatives across state lines and in Canada.
Right now, the family spends a lot of time cooking, playing dress-up, kid taste tests, doing arts and crafts, and playing Spot It as well as other board games. The Disney channel comes in handy on Saturday evenings when the whole family can enjoy a movie together with a big bowl of popcorn.
