Scribd announces SlideShare acquisition.

In an exciting announcement earlier this week Scribd announced the new acquisition.

Initially, the products were similar and were launched in the early 2000s.  SlideShare focused on PowerPoint presentations and business users while Scribd focused more on PDFs, Word docs, long-form content, and general users.

Since their early beginnings, both products have evolved. SlideShare was purchased by LinkedIn in 2012 and became even more heavily used by the business industry. Scribd launched a subscription service for e-books and audiobooks, bringing it to the product it is today.

It's unclear what changes may be in store, but the folks at Scribd state they intend for SlideShare to be a standalone service and remain well-integrated with LinkedIn.

Scribd will officially take over all operations as of September 24, 2020. Current SlideShare users, if they wish to opt-out, have until that date to close their accounts.
